YouTube EDU

6 Apr

There is no single barrier from that specific subject you wanted to learn and you. No geographical barrier nor time.

Learn from baking cupcakes, to curing kleptomania (in dedication to ) with YouTube Edu.

This is very similar to what MIT had worked on earlier. I’d safely hypothesize, though, that with YouTube Edu many higher ed institutions saved a great deal of money and troubles.

Under a general audience perspective…

I see this public sharing as a great milestone towards what we call democratic education. I could be turning utopic… but in terms of “access” it is definitely “a moment ” in history of education. Am I getting too excited?

Under a student perspective  and [somewhat] positive…

It gives students easily accessible and easier-to-remember channel to their own classes. Who doesn’t know YouTube? Additionally, YouTube [as being Google owned] certainly provides IT stability and fosters security confidence. Also, it provides support materials for students’ dedication.

On a faculty perspective… and [maybe] institutional standpoint…

This is where it might get complicated. These videos will go public and in legal [judicial] terms I’m sure institutions have a certain agreement with Faculty. It’s all about their “image” that is out there exposed.

The institution might also view YouTube Edu as online venue for advertisement. For example, general users that watch Stanford’s class videos and compare them to any other institution that might help Stanford to receive more applications next Fall.

This could lead to a very interesting discussion.
